Clinic Description:
Teen Age Medical Service (TAMS) has been providing comprehensive health services specific to adolescents since 1968. TAMS provides a model of care that recognizes the physical and psychosocial needs of adolescents. As such, care is delivered to youth ages 10-22 by an interdisciplinary team which is dedicated to and sensitive to adolescents.
The mission of TAMS is to advance the total health of adolescents by providing accessible health services and by advocating on behalf of youth. Services are provided which are respectful of youth of all races, beliefs, and lifestyles. TAMS serves all adolescents, especially those whose complex needs are not served by the traditional health care system.
Services include:
1) Primary medical care: physical exams, immunizations, illness and injury, common health problems, sexually transmitted disease (testing, treatment and prevention).
2) Family planning: exams, birth control, pregnancy testing and counseling.
3) Nutrition counseling: weight loss/weight gain, sports nutrition, special diets, healthy eating.
4) Mental health services: individual, developmental issues, other personal problems.
5) Health education, promotion and outreach.
TAMS is located in a comfortable old house in South Minneapolis, and is outpatient adolescent department of Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota.
